The Release of the Birmingham Six -
Television Journalism's Finest House?
by Chris Mullin, Journalist and former MP
The lecture to be given on 3 February concerns the making of history and
it is to be given by someone who was at the very centre of events.
Chris Mullin will talk about the events which led to the wrongful conviction of just about
all of the people - a total of 18 in all - convicted of the main IRA bombings in the
mid-1970s. His role in the Birmingham Six case was described by writer Sebastian Faulks
("Birdsong" ) as "one of the greatest feats ever achieved by an investigative reporter".
A former journalist he was for 23 years the MP for Sunderland South and a minister in
three government departments. He has recently published three volumes of diaries.
